\u201cLaw of liberty,\u201d James says. Ok, that should be pretty easy, right? Like, look in Acts 15 and there\u2019s James and some elders, talking about being free from idols: \u201c28 \u201cFor it seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us to lay upon you no greater burden than these essentials: 29 that you abstain from things sacrificed to idols and from blood and from things strangled and from fornication; if you keep yourselves free from such things, you will do well. Farewell.\u201d<\/em> Bottom line: We\u2019re no longer bound by a law which requires us to do things in order to be justified. Instead, we are justified by the blood of Jesus, therefore we are free to live by The Spirit. Think of it this way: The law said we have to do this or that in order to be justified. Living in The Spirit, we may find ourselves doing the same \u201cthis or that\u201d but now, we\u2019re doing it because we WANT to, not because we MUST do it. Be. Do. But then Paul has to chime in. Romans 8:1 Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death.<\/em>
It\u2019s like Paul is saying \u201cWhat James said is right but there\u2019s a little more to it.\u201d Just read all of Romans 8 to get the picture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
